Another LRPV found and acquired/saved
Tuesday just gone, I came across this advertisement on Gumtree. I immediately identified the Land Rover as a S3 FFR. The square cut guard drew my attention as did the patches of colour on it. A closer look showed they were off an LRPV
.
After telephoning the seller, I discovered that the S3 FFR was purchased from another farmer in the district. It was this farmer who replaced the S3 outer guard panels with the LRPV set. So today, I journeyed out country to track down the LRPV.
Following the directions on a dodgy 'mud map', I finally discovered ex SASR Mk3 LRPV 175-196 sitting in the corner of a farmers shed. As with my last acquisition 179-520, this LRPV ARN is
unknown to me and does not appear on the REMLR LRPV ARN list. It is therefore a '
new' LRPV. This discovery now takes the known total of 'confirmed' S2A LRPVs to 31 and Mk3 model to 9.
After meeting the farmer in question, I was able to acquire the LRPV. And just in time as he was converting/rebuilding the Land Rover for his 'P' plate daughter (as her first car)
. This is why the front panels etc have been removed. To secure the two LRPV outer guard panels on the S3, I also acquired that vehicle.
175-196 is a rare FFT, is mostly complete, retains it's original motor and electronic ignition, is driveable and has only the boxed tailgate, drop down spare wheel holders, ROPS bar cut down and a few small parts missing. Thankfully, it retains it's very rare original Thomas winch. This LRPV is the first I have seen with this make of winch still in situ.
Bulkhead is rust free and body panels are remarkably straight. The blue paint is quite thin and apparently easy to remove if need be. The original camouflage paint is still extant under this blue coat.
Although the photos below show a rather sad looking LRPV due to the part dismantlement by farmer, it is in very good condition and will require minimal reproduction of missing parts to see it back to original state.
I intend to retrieve the LRPV and S3 in the coming weeks.

Interestingly, the disposal date is January 8, 1992. This date matches the date of an LRPV auction at Mt Claremont. Other LRPVs sold at this auction were -

Whilst I was at the farm, I did some scrounging and turned up some original parts off the LRPV. In another shed on the property I found the door mounted brush deflection guards.
Original bonnet, guards and rims/tyres.
I even found the rear diff helper springs on a fire fighting trailer.
