The Census 5254A is given to the "Truck, Dump, 2 1/2 Ton, GS, With Winch AB-160" I'm presuming that the "A" relates to the addition of the Garwood/Olding winch. Just like the A suffix applies to census 6006 FFRs with winch.

Diana, the suffix seems to be used to indicate just about any change, the GS C/C 6069 is a good example. 6069 was Mk1 6069A Mk2 6069B MK3 6069C MK4. There are occasions where the same code will be used more than once for different types. There seem to be no hard and fast rules. The codes are probably to assist when audits are done.
