I believe that a couple of tippers were done, but not with a crane as well.  We have one in service photo of a Mk.3 tipper somwhere.

Having just obtained a copy, I see Mud & Dust appendices do not list that combo. Dumpers yes, but not with crane.

Perhaps you could rig something of a pulley system and use the winch? Maybe not :)

According to M&D tables, only the GS had either HIAB crane - in 4x4 and 6x6.

Didn't we have a thread ages ago on the old REMLR forum where there was discussion about a Mk3 with a teaspoon tipper body and a crane.  Even seem to remember there were piccys.

We couldn't work out if it was an in-service trial or a post service mod.

As for the mechanics of it, the hydraulics would work the same as on the F2, the big problem is that tippers like their rear wheels very close to the rear of the chassis as all the weight is loaded at that point when tipping.  The Mk3 and Mk4 are quite weak behind the rear axle so would need significant reinforcement.

I found a thread but this looks to be a Mk3 with F2 body and no crane.

Thanks for adding the picture of the Mk3 Tipper to Conversions and Oddities....

Just raised a few questions - firstly does it have a dual wheel rear axle?

Next the obvious question - is it really the only tipper made? I've seen a few other mk3 tippers, so these would have to be post service modifications?

This one was on ebay... January last year i think...

From inland Qld, Badly rusted out in the cab... i think it sold for around $2k...

There were at least 3 tippers made because I saw them in the flesh in mid 1973. I found a notebook some time back with some details. The ARNs of 2 of them were 170565 & 170566, the third has been lost due to the page being torn. The census code was 6254. tyre size 10.00 X 20 ( NOT 12.00 x 20 as with the other Inters), and dual rear wheels. The wheel & tyre equipment appeared to be the same as the F2 prototype. I had done some work trying to track the third and will revisit shortly. All these trucks were from the first batch of Mk 3s (with fibre glass mudguards). It is almost certain that none of these trucks escaped into the wild as tippers. One for Phoenix: Richard when you have time check the records for any conversion involving the census code 6254 as this will give a hit on ident of a tipper. The config of the two ARNs is listed as Chassis, Truck was this listing as when disposed of or at receipt? If it's at disposal then it proves the trucks were not tippers when they left service. If it's at receipt then all is not lost because only a handfull of trucks can't be accounted for as other configs and it might be possible to identify the 3rd truck.I also have a copy of a photo of 170566 and will post if I can locate it. It seems that the trucks in question were not disposed of until well into the 80s, which is odd because they were in a yard which was used for vehicles that were to be decomissioned. None of the trucks I saw had a crane.

One of these Mk3 tippers did make it into civilian life, it was owned by a farmer in the Mitta Valley Vic, I saw it about 1990 at the time I thought it was a civilian modification because of the wheels, the owner told me the truck was bought from army disposals as is, unfortunately I didn't realise how rare it was and failed to get any further info on it. I went past the property about five years ago but he had sold up, couldn't find out where the truck went.

The AWMdocs have 170566 listed in SVN. 170565 has not been sighted in the docs -yet.

The rear of the chassis seems to have extensions made from rhs, not the original C section.

Bluebell, 6254 was the census for the teaspoon tippers, and noted so in the census codes book, but 6254 would have suited better bcause it is With Winch (also noted for the AB160, but as I said elsewhere this morning, the census code is often used for multiple types, and probably was in this case as it suited)

The Truck Chassis comes from the page in the ARN book for the vehicles, although the pen notation appears to be later, and the LHS of the page is curled so I can't see what the original Census was noted as, and if it was struck out.

Thanks for the info Richard, some more pieces of the jigsaw fall into place. If the census code 6254 is noted as "2 1/2 ton with winch" then it was probably originally allocated to the US6 trucks that were converted to tippers, as I'm told that those had winches fitted. The other interesting use of this code is the Mk1 tippers, and there were 3 of them made. It could be that the tipper bodies were transferred to the Mk3s. The Mk1 tippers 107674,675 & 691were approved for disposal in 1967 & 71 so it is possible, esecially if the Mk3s were delivered as cab chassis. Thanks to DKG001 for the info on the intact tipper. there might be 3 of them out there after all.
