Title: size of Land Rover etc Tac signs.
Post by: Diana Alan on January 23, 2013, 02:40:05 PM
I am wanting to get some replica tac signs/decals made (some for an AAVA associate member with a SIII GS in the USA) but don't know the actual size.  I do know that the Inter ones are 8 1/2" wide and 9" tall.

Anyone know the Land Rover sizes?

Also it seems the RAE Corps Shop has failed to materialise my request from November last year, anyone know someone who would make vinyl decals with the graphic and colour permanent/UV stabilised?

G'day Diana

Most of the TAC plates that I have seen have hand painted unit ID and/or numbers. In some case (as in the photo below), the plate is absent and the numbers stencilled onto the face of the holder.

As a matter of interest, were decals used on TAC plates during the S2A and S3 days?

Hi Tommy

That would be true of many vehicles, particularly in the low vis era, however I believe that pool vehicles used the metal plates of the unit while on loan which were removed prior to being returned to the vehicle park.

My Haulmark PT1-1,2 has the Training Command Tac and the unit tac on metal plates riveted to the holder.

My SIII FFR however has evidence of blue paint on the tack sign holder but no evidence of rivetted or screwed signs.

I want to use metal signs, because of different display requirements.  If its with AAVA it will have the AVVA logo other times it has (or will have) other signs depending upon need of the day.

Hi Diana

I have some original TAC plates that I can measure on the weekend for you. But they are just smaller than the TAC plate holders and do vary in height and generally they have a hole in the top, I assume to hang up somewhere

Hope this helps

Scott

if I recall, the stickers themselves are 6x6 inches, the plates a little larger.

Eden had a vinyl printed tac sticker stuck on the plate holder, but then painted over (I never noticed it, but WileE I think it was did notice). So ho used them, and who used stencils varied somewhat.

Hi Phoenix

I have the REMLR stickers on my FFR and No.5.  What I'm not so keen on is that the sticker is a little smaller than the holder and you get a border of the metal plate around the sticker.  This is also true of the original Training Command Tac on my Haulmank.

What I did on the REMLR tac is to paint the metal plate in the sand over blood scheme and adhere the sticker so it aligns with the change in colour.

I would rather have stickers made up that continue the background colour/s as a border behind the folded edge of the holder.

Yes I am aware that I can be fussy on some things.
