Title: Anzac Day
Post by: STDDIVER on March 19, 2020, 02:23:55 PM
Dear All - Just a thought on this Anzac day - I intend seperately, getting as many mates to work together (Individually) and every ex-military vehicle that I/we own and proudly fly the Australian flag and convoy past the RSL, the hospital, nursing homes and every other major community instalation to show that we will never forget.  Timings are the same as every Anzac Day in your local area, but in this way the risk to the population and us is about as low as you can get; and some people may see our message, pause to reflect, and pass it on.  I have my local home town covered but there are many ex-military vehicle owners accross this great land and this is one way of showing our respects.  All invited - - just get out and show the flag, remember and respect -

Just a thought!       STDDIVER

Thanks Mick - Let's see what comes of this - my RSL really like the idea as it is a safe and doable activity and in a small way takes the Anzac message out there.  I wonder how many other towns could do likewise?

Cheers Frank

Thanks for the thumbs up, Charlie, Mick and John.  Our local RSL has approved the plan, I dare say it will alter as things progress, but in principle - subject to fine tuning -  it will keep the focus on a positive Anzac day.  It's a pity we are so far apart, I'd be happy to loan you a ex-mil vehicle!   8)

I reckon at least everyone that can fly the Australian flag on this important day.

Cheers  Frank

FYI Frank,

As mentioned earlier, I really like your idea and would like to put it out there for Melbourne based members to get on board with a Melbourne convoy thru the CBD and surrounding suburbs on ANZAC Day ( sanctions permitting)

In  discussion with Mike K , our initial thoughts would be to visit some memorials along the route and lay a wreath.

Again if sanctions permit.

I will also contact the VMVC "head shed" and see if they'd like to get on board. Stay tuned boys.

Cheers,

Mick

Hi Mick - We have a plan of the RSL notifying the local press and radio station well in advance of Anzac Day, then on the day, remaining in vehicles with the appropriate distances between persons and safety protocols, driving from the RSL along the route usually marched to the Cenotaph.  A single person to lay a wreath, the Ode to be recited and two minutes silence.  Everyone remains in their vehicles.  The ANF to be in the lead vehicle and all other service flags flown in the following vehicles in the protocol order.  Then drive from there down the main street, past hospital and nursing homes etc then dispersal from the RSL.  If some streets would like us to drive past we will accommodate this to show the flags and pay respects.  Residents would stay on their own property.   The RSL committee has been fantastic.   Being a member I suppose it makes it easier to arrange as I have in every other year been the MC for both the dawn and 11am ceremonies and, as with many others, strongly feel we have to do something..

It would be fantastic if something like this or similar could be done in as many towns and locations as possible ... ... Subject to whatever controls are in place I expect.

I appreciate your enthusiasm Mick, and please continue to do whatever you can -

Cheers  Frank

Good luck Dave,

It was a great idea of Franks however it's outside the lockdown criteria down here so I left it alone.

I hope it's a great success 👍

Yes, Good Luck to all participants.
I can't break the NW Tas lockdown.  There's more police on the roads than anyone else.
Of course, that doesn't mean that I can't place a banner out near the footpath, or such.
Cheers.

Dear All - Have just heard that Anzac House (Vic) say no.  Reason given is that they can't control members of the public joining in and therefore it becomes a "Public Event"   - The local Police are very supportive and have indicated that they would prefer the Anzac House view is observed.  Therefore in spirit I will don uniform and support in the only way sanctioned by standing in my rural driveway at dawn.  The police asked what was the reason we were doing this in accordance with the 4 criteria for leaviing home.  My answer was 'employment' as we were beng paid $100 each vehicle for this activity.  (This was to be donated to Legacy in full,  but met the criteria allowed).    Good luch and best wishes all -  Lets we forget!

Yes, Lest We Forget.

This year is a disaster for all events.

250 years ago next Wednesday (29 April) Cpt Cook landed at Kurnell.

There was some small commemorations organised... but...

(before i rant about toxic political correctness I better stop)
