Title: Perentie turning over but not starting...how to remove EDIC?
Post by: 48354 on March 12, 2020, 04:14:57 PM
Hi All,

A couple of weeks ago my Perentie, which started first go every timer for years, did not start. I  assumed it was a fuse issue with all fuses checked (including the inline glass fuse in the drivers side of the engine bay. I can't seem to isolate what the issue is apart from the EDIC motor giving out.

How in hell do you remove the EDIC for inspection without damaging the protective bag?? Mine seems to be bolted onto a plate in the engine bay where I cannot get to...is there a trick to it as one thread said it was a 30 second job??

Any assistance appreciated.

Dunny

Dunny, Firstly check if the edic motor is working. When you turn the ignition on or off you should hear a whirring sound. If not working, that will be why it won't start. Check all wire connectors - pull apart and then push them back together. You say you have checked the fuse. Is that the blade fuse in the holder zip tied to the firewall. If all fails disconnect the stop cable at the fuel pump lever and the engine will start. until you sort it out you can attach some string or wire to the fuel lever to stop the motor. It defaults to the running position so you have to pull it to stop it.

 >:(SORRY 48354, I forgot why you called up for , remove the edit motor as a unit , mine has got two press studs on the top end of it ,undo them and you should be able to see your edic motor, be careful when/if you pull it down apparently it needs to be activated on or off don't know which before pulling it apart, good luck,TONA,51590.

Thanks guys,

To confirm - no whirring sound on ignition but lights up in the dash. I can;t find a blade fuse anywhere in the engine bay...I have a glass fuse in an inline tube running into one of the relays. I'm baffled as I can see into the bag holding the EDIC and it looks fine - no corrosion so maybe it is only electrical. Will check everything again and in worst case disconnect the edic cable from the fuel lever.

Thanks again for the tips...first issue I have had in the 5 or six years I have owned this.

G'day Dunny, I had a problem with my edic motor some time ago.  My problem was that the engine would not shut down unless I pulled the lever on the injector pump. My problem was a broken cable from the Edic motor to the injector pump which you don't know just by looking at it because it was broken inside. Hope that helps. Cheers Rob

as an update:

As I am time poor at the moment to trouble shoot electrics, I have disconnected the cable from the EDIC to the fuel pump. I now have to exit the cabin and pull a wire that sticks out the underside of the bonnet to switch off the motor. This is connected to the pump lever.

All other electrics seem to be working fine...I'll have another poke around on the weekend and failing that (likely) I will have to take this to an auto-electricians before I need to pink slip again.

Thanks

Dunny

Re: The Edic blade fuse that Brian (Bearman) was talking about in his earlier post, is only on the later or modified versions, check that glass fuse that you mentioned going into the relay, it’ll most probably be the same fuse that Brian’s talking about.

If that doesn’t work, where abouts are you in Sydney?
