Title: Perentie steering wheel alignment

Hi,
What is the process to get the steering wheel straight on a Perentie?

I removed my steering wheel nut with a steering wheel puller (homemade). They are available at Supercheap etc.

I took the wheel off the splines and put it back on the splines in a new position (couple of splines difference). It took a couple of tries to get it exactly centered.

Yes, it's the self-cancelling ring.

Any idea if the thread on the steering wheel to screw in to for pulling is metric 6M x 1 ?
It screws in a bit then stops but I can see thread goes a lot further?

Try 1/4 UNF,.......which is 28tpi,........if its a bit coarser than metric ,try 1/4 UNC.....unlikely to be 1/4 BSF...26tpi.

I made up a little visual to clear things up.

A big socket or spanner undoes the center str wheel nut (but it is not removed, just loosened a few threads).

The wheel as a whole has to be pulled up the shaft becauseeven with a very loose center nut, the wheel does not move at all - its well and truly jammed down on the top of the tapered steering shaft.

-from memory-
A small piece of thick flat steel (the puller) is attached to the steering wheel using the two small boltholes adjacent to the center shaft hole.

A hole in the center of the puller (flat steel) is sized large enough that it allows the puller to fit over the center shaft but it is also made small enough that as you continue to rotate aka undo the center wheel nut with your spanner .. the center shaft nut forces the puller (flat steel) to bring out the steering wheel off the tapered shaft as well.

Hmmm, clear as mud.

Make sure the arm out of the steering box is straight before you the above.

Straightened up the steering wheel today, thanks everybody for their help

Check the arm out of the steering box is pointing straight ahead @Philthy
Make up the puller with a small piece of thick flat steel @Carzee
Threaded holes are 1/4" UNF 28tpi (length of bolts needed about 1.5") @john.k

Align opposite part to indicator self-cancelling ring (#3), for me it was a blue part and just had to align cut outs so they where at the top and bottom @Dervish
