Title: Trying to find info on ARN 50-292
Post by: Sandgroper on March 30, 2018, 03:20:12 PM
Gíday all,
Iíve had my Perentie for about 4 months but really donít know anything about it as far as itís service in the army goes. Iíd love to know any service history my Perentie may have, if anyone has any ideas on how I may be able to find out Iíd be very greatful for any help.

ARN 50-292
Consensus No: 73010
Vin No: SALLDHAZIFF446114
FFR, winch, MC2
Manufactured 9/90
It was originally auctioned by AFM in Minto, NSW in August 2013.

I bought it here in Western Australia in November 2017, the previous owner had bought it in Queensland from the bloke who originally bought it from the auction. Photos of it in service would be fantastic but I donít expect to be able to track any down, just to know where it served overseas - if at all would be really good.
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks for taking the time to read my question.
Cheers,
           Dave.

No, unfortunately that wasn't with the perentie when I got it. Would have been good if it had been, probably going to make it difficult to find out anything about the landy without it.

Are there any markings on the vehicle that might give an indication, it might be your best chance to get any idea without a log book.

The only thing I can see on it is underneath the rear diff is painted white so I wondered whether it had served with the UN somewhere and had been repainted camo once it had returned home to Australia but I'm guessing all this.

AFAIK diffs are painted white to reflect the convoy blackout light

I took these pics on my daughters iPad and uploaded them but I have a samsung phone so I might try using that tomorrow, Iím not too keen on iPads or iPhones either, my wife and daughter love them but Iím not all that impressed but Iím not too good on any sort of technology, maybe thatís why I love Landrovers!

Good on you sandgroper!   -  problem is even the new landrovers have more whistles and buttons now - I am like you I prefer the Landrover for what it is!  Welcome to REMLR too!

Thanks very much for the warm welcome mate, much appreciated.  I've owned 5 landrovers now, 3 ex army ones, an ex W.A. government 300 tdi and a 2013 Puma 90. The Puma was nice but I'm glad I made the decision to sell it and go back to an ex army perentie,  they are just great fun and I stand half a chance repairing it myself if need be, I  love driving it!

Dave I agree with you they are something else to drive, and once you become used to the classic understeer they are a treat.  You certainly own or have owned an intersting 'stable of vehicles'.   I enjoy tinkering with technology I understand and can actually do most jobs on my rovers myself.  I call it my green therapy.  I know you will get a lot out the great group of people who are the backbone and brains of REMLR.

Cheers mate   :)   Frank

Thanks Frank, I've already picked up some good info from reading various threads here, there's a lot of knowledge here.
