Title: RAEMUS Rover
Post by: RAEMUS Rover on March 01, 2015, 10:39:16 AM
In the late 70's staff from the Puckapunyal Military Area formed the RAEMUS Rover team. The focus was on developing trade skills amongst active team members. For over 10 years the car and serving members competed in off road races across the eastern states with varying success, achieving State Champion title twice. As the numbers of military staff in Puckapunyal decreased in the late 80's the car was placed into storage at the Army Museum Bandiana in one of the storage sheds. In late 2012 the car was requested by RAEME staff in Amberley again as a trade training activity. The request was granted and the car was gifted to a group of tradesmen for restoration and return to racing. As motor racing didn't align with current Army focus the car was no longer supported by ADF which didn't deter the team members raising the parts and finances from their own pockets with a little help from small commerical supports most who had a prevoous relationship with the race car.

The team is building on that simple platform by still developing trade skills. We support any serving/ex-serving injured or ill members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
We are working closely with Mates4Mates, the Queensland RSL and the Soldier Recovery Centre (SRC) to provide not just rehabilitation but new skills that can lead into future employment outside the ADF. From spinning spanners on the race cars, managerial roles or even driver/navigator, we have the ability to employ people of any skill level.
The vehicle, the oldest known off road race car in Australia, and its crew compete in the Australian Off Road Racing series. We do short course (less than 19km) and long course (19km or more) events throughout the year. Our main aim is to get our 3 cars and team to compete in the Finke Desert Race; it's an international event with massive exposure world wide.
If you are an ex-serving member or an injured/ill member of the ADF or even a current serving member and our project interests you don't be afraid to contact us for more information through our Facebook page.

I would like to post some images how ever having trouble posting them, do I need to post a certain amount of times first? Update: Thanks for the  help here are some images.

I will also add we are clearing out our shed this week and have numerous parts available, some modified, some not. Including a series 3 chassis with firewall, transmission, front axle housing and engine. Plus more axle housings, diff banjo's and other stuff. happy to part with the lot for a set of race seats.

So what sort of car are we talking about??  Unless the I have missed something the original post doesn't mention it - as it is a racing vehicle I assume it is not a Landrover.

Pics would be good.

Those photos are definitely of  RAEMUS, over the years panels have been changed due to "Racing Incidents" and some modifications have been done, but the heart and soul of the car remains. Fantastic photos, thanks.

Hard to believe the little landy is still going, I was a Recce Mech at Pucka Wksps back in the late 70's , moving reamus from Wksps to Mob siding in Seymour for what ever reason, I often wondered what happened to it, good to see it has a new lease of life, keep it up troops and good luck.

Laurie
