A: Non-Factory removable Series 2A 88" crossmember 196?. (This example recently renewed)

This is apparently an Australian Army RAEME crossmember modification to Australian Army Series 2A chassis. Not many were done. As yet we don't have a copy of the EMEI on this mod and we don't know when it was dreamt up and carried out. IF it was done by RAEME, say, in 1967, you could wonder whether the crossmember mod found it's way back to Solihull (its called feedback nowadays) and influenced engineering of the Lightweight. In a coupla million "normal" Land-Rovers (Series I, II, III), gearbox removal is achieved by removing the seats and floor above the gearbox, lifting it up inside the cab and then getting it out through the doorway... all because the chassis crossmember under the gearbox was welded solid at each end like the other chassis crossmembers.

B: Factory removable Lightweight 88" crossmember 1983.

C: Factory removable Perentie 110" crossmember 1989.
